Balayage Beauty -- Mermaid Hair!

I know it has been a while, for some reason I feel obligated to write that, as if you, who stumble upon this site for the very first time would know the infrequency with which I write. It is like when a cell phone call drops and you just have to say "Ok, bye" when no one is on the other end of the line, even if you are in a car all alone you have to have that closure--with no one. Fun stuff, yes? Reading a semi-deserted blog about being a semi-deserted blog. Ah well here we go than. I have done some hair that I love lately! A lot of it... Of course I always forget to photograph if properly in order to boast it up on this here Holiday For Your Hair blog site... But for once, this last hair do, I did remember to snap a few shots of. Lets just haircut to the chase than shall we? COLOR: Here I have done a lovely natural highlighting on the beautiful Kelly. I used a balayage technique to give a multitude of dimension while applying just one formulation of lightener. It is also one way to achieve a gorgeous ombre look that is not too edgy. Weather I am going for a dipped looking, dark to light, faded ombre, or a natural looking brushed-with-gold look, Balayage is by far my favorite way to get there! As for Kelly, I was wanting to bring out her nature and give her back her kid hair... These are just the terms I think in and how I find the words to say, "Let's play mother nature!" If you are looking for some sun kisses. Balayage will do just that. Or rather I will do that for you, by way of Balayage! These super natural looking highlights will fool everyone! Your friends will writhe with internal jealousy as they will just assumed you summered over in Bora Bora! They will silently hate you and your natural beauty... Isn't that every girls secret wish? To be hated for her beauty, by all her friends? I think we have just cracked the code on that old saying, "don't hate me because I am beautiful" Translation: Hate me because I am beautiful. But really, all the hate jokes aside, the result will be that you are sneakily beautiful. No one will notice exactly why but they will think how fresh and beautiful you look and they will probably tell you about it because they are your friends and they love you! HAIRCUT: I did a sculptural layered cut using razor & scissors on Kelly to bring out her natural waves and push the curl shape. Kelly is typically a wash and go kinda gal and the natural, organic, embracing of the waves and texture that I have done with the cut will wear well with her level of maintenance. I actually prefer the air dried look on cuts like this but I wouldn't dare have this angel-face walk out of my shop sopping wet, so I carefully sculpted each and every curl by hand--well by brush and blow dryer. And that is no small feat, belei'you-me! It is a little "done" for an everyday look bu,t I would say if you are wanting to feel a little extra fancy, it fits the bill. I always encourage my clients to have a date lined up for the day/night of their appointment because they usually want to take their new hair out! Thanks Kelly for letting me brag about your lovely locks!

Golden Rule

This is a beautiful image from a shoot I did hair and makeup for, for Golden Rule... One of Portland's most original stores EVER and the largset personal collection of rare vintage I have ever seen... Sadly, it now, exists solely on the internet.

DREAM client, meet hair LOVE!!!

Calling all dream clients... Which I do currently have MANY of, but as I build my client base I want to fill my entire books with JUST you lovely ladies... There I said it, my dream clients are LADIES, and yes, they are lovely. Who are you exactly? My dreamies??? Well... YOU are fun!!! (<<-- as exampled by the exclamation marks) YOU may be a little funky... But you also like to express your natural beauty. YOU are creative in your style and are current with the trends... But you don't just hop on any old fad... It has to make sense to you, and you dig it because YOU dig it! YOU are easy... It is not that I am lazy and I want to sleep on the job, but it's that I enjoy a light heart, and someone who is into trying new things, to me, that is easy. YOU are interesting... I love hearing about the lives of my clients! If you are shy, that's ok too, as long as you are nice. When it comes to your hair you are willing to do a little bit of work to make it look awesome but you are free enough to let the cut work for you, all on it's own, from time to time. When it comes to color, you are looking for someone to copy cat nature, like you wintered over Down Under and came out looking like a 6 year old (golden and sunkissed). YOU are regular (we are not talking bran muffin regular), you come in often enough so that I don't have to scream at you, intervention style, for the wreckage we have to deal with during your yearly visit (really though, I just hate to miss my favorite peeps--a year is a long, long time). YOU will do the outside work, meaning if you sizzle-fry the bejeezus out of your tresses on the daily... Please use a heat protectant... I know this sounds like I am your gym teacher telling you to practice safe sex, but seriously... You will thank me for it later. I get giddy when I see you on the books because you are super awesome and I love to play with your hair. So there it is, you are my dream... And if you posses even three of these traits, well, I think we will get along great! Now a little about me... ME: I am fun too!!! I am skilled, experienced and passionate about hair styling. I love my job and I truly value my clients. I love nature and art and to me hair is a mixture of these things. I am creative and sculptural, and use your natural assets as my inspiration. I see hairstyling as a three dimensional art form, and each head of hair as my unique art piece. I am a pretty good listener, and am all about the consultation. I offer a complimentary bang trim between appointments... So you don't murder your fringe in the meantime. I appreciate your support and your confidence in my styling abilities
. I look forward to meeting you!

Bowl Haircuts

More on the bowl cut... In it's different incarnations. Not all exactly Dorothy Hamill, but still the essence or potential is there. Here are some lovely images of some sweet short haircuts for you to ponder.
Might be a bit heavy on the Aggy Deyn Side, but we are talking bowlcuts right... And who could get too much of her? just darling...

80's and 90's hair inspiration

As we see the decades whirling back around... And around... And around. This time that spinning bottle has landed pointing in the direction of the 1990's with bits carried over, of course, from the 80's... Today the focus is on the tom-boyishly, brilliant (if you can pull it off) bowl cut... Here are some of the first to make this thing look amazing, effortless and crushingly hot. I don't know about you but I always had an aching crush on Mary Stuart Masterson for her roll in Some Kind of Wonderful, as Watts, the tom-boy drummer. It was mostly an I-just-want-to-be-her crush, with bits of real crush thrown in, I mean she did look just like... (eehumm) Justin Bieber... And I WAS like 7 when that movie came out (though I didn't see it until I was more like 11) So you do the math. And now we are moving right along to the 90's with this sleek thang, looking incredible on Josie Bissett (Jane) from Melrose Place. If I could you know I would but I am just a bit too girly to pull off a cut like this
But on these ladies? Crushing. Am I Right?

For my curlies... YOU will love this!

This is so funny I was LOL-ing, for real, when I was this. I am sure if you have curly hair and have fought the frizzies and fly aways you will be able to relate. Even for those not so curly haired this video is super funny, I think you will like.

This Weeks Crush: Carrie Mulligan

How cute it her sweet little face??? Also I think she is definitely one of those women who was made for short hair! She is just too much for me!
